Recently, a video has been circulated from Indian X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram propaganda accounts claiming that police handed over Dipu Chandra Das—a garment worker who was killed in Bhaluka, Mymensingh—to a mob.

Some of the posts can be seen here, here, and here:

However, an investigation shows that the claim is false. On November 17, clashes broke out between protesters and law enforcement agencies centering on the announcement of the verdict against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, during which a student of Dhaka College was injured. The video in question actually shows the injured Dhaka College student being taken back to his residential hall.

On November 17, the video was uploaded to the Facebook pages of several online and multimedia news portals.

In the footage, police are seen escorting a person forward. At one point, the individual identifies himself as a Dhaka College student. During that time, Masud Alam, Deputy Police Commissioner (DMP), Ramna Division, detained him and arranged for him to be taken back to the hall by rickshaw.

The clothing worn by the individual bore the Dhaka College logo, with the word “Momin” written on the back.

A keyword search on Independent Television’s website also finds a video report titled “Attempted vandalism at Dhanmondi 32 centered on the verdict against Sheikh Hasina.” The report states that on the day the verdict was announced in the crimes against humanity case against Bangladesh’s former fugitive Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, clashes erupted between protesters and law enforcement when protesters attempted to enter the Dhanmondi 32 area with bulldozers.

Therefore, no connection has been found between this video and the incident involving the killing of Dipu Chandra Das.
