Claim That No Hindu Has Been Hired by the Government Fails to Match Official Records
A claim made on national television that no member of Bangladesh’s Hindu community has received a government job in the past one and a half years does not hold up against official recruitment records.
Mahbub Aziz, deputy editor of the daily Samakal, made the assertion on the night of December 3 during Somoy TV’s talk show “Editorial,” saying that “no Hindu has received even a single government job in the past one and a half years.”

An investigation by The Dissent found that Mahbub Aziz’s comment about Hindus receiving government jobs is not true. Following the mass uprising of August 5, 2024, the names of individuals from the Hindu community have appeared in multiple recruitment lists published on the websites of the Ministry of Public Administration and other government bodies.
Among the results returned by related Google searches, The Dissent found that, within the one-and-a-half-year time frame, Hindu candidates appeared in varying numbers in each of the first eleven recruitment lists published during that period. In addition, many more recruitment notices have been published on the Ministry of Public Administration’s website over the past one and a half years.
According to a notification issued on December 30 last year by the Ministry of Public Administration’s recruitment wing, a total of 1,896 individuals were appointed to government service. Of the 267 recruits assigned to the Administration Cadre, more than fifty were Hindu.
A subsequent list from the same Bangladesh Civil Service examination added 24 more appointees to the Administration Cadre, including at least ten Hindu candidates. The records also show Hindu candidates appointed to other cadres, including Foreign Service, Police, and General Education.
Additional appointments appear in recruitment notices issued by other government bodies. Under the Directorate of Technical Education, a government Technical School and College in Tungipara, Gopalganj, appointed one individual to the post of office assistant on December 21. The appointment went to Ananya Biswas, according to the official notice.

On September 25, the Department of Narcotics Control, which operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs, appointed 22 accountants at the 11th grade. At least three of those appointed were Hindu.

Similarly, the Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (BITAC), under the Ministry of Industries, appointed three individuals at the 11th grade on July 9, two of whom were Hindu, according to official records.

Bangladesh Krishi Bank also carried out large-scale recruitment during the period. On August 14, the bank appointed 222 officers (cash) at the 10th grade. At least 33 of those appointed were Hindu, according to the recruitment list. The list also includes individuals from other ethnic communities, including Marma and Chakma, whose names were not included in this count.

Taken together, official recruitment records show that members of Bangladesh’s Hindu community have continued to receive government appointments over the past one and a half years. The claim that no Hindu has secured a government job during this period is therefore not supported by the available evidence.
